We think it is important for our pupils to develop identity with the communities in which we live so positive behaviour is promoted throughout every day and across all areas of activity within school and in the wider community. We have an active Student Council which makes a real contribution to the development of our school. There are regular elections when pupils are voted onto the Council by their peers and there is pupil representation from each of our Year Groups.

An important event in the school's calendar is our 'Rainbow Day', when pupils and staff provide fun activities for children and carers from a number of local special units. We encourage our pupils to work for the benefit of others as well as themselves and we raise pupils' awareness of the difficulties faced by others trying to make their way in the world. We use our many activity opportunities to promote self-esteem and self-confidence.

We encourage our pupils to support charitable causes in many practical ways.
In recent years our charitable support projects have resulted in substantial donations being made to CAFOD: a street children rescue mission in the Philippines: the Soldiers, Sailors and Air Force Association (SAAFA) and Children in Need, providing valuable awareness-raising opportunities in the process.

We help boys to plan and arrange work experience placements in Years 10 and 11. Pupils are encouraged to utilise the skills they learn through engagement in activities and other projects when they return to their home communities. Boys receive help identifying clubs and societies in their home areas that they could, with advantage, attend in order to make best use of their time.
