We constantly acknowledge pupils' efforts to become more confident and competent. We accept that enjoying school and making progress may have eluded boys in the past and offer a curriculum which can, if they invest, compensate pupils for previous interruptions to their schooling and help them experience success.

We expect pupils to be involved in our curriculum, attending and enjoying their experience of school. We provide a structured routine where there a sense of warmth, comfort, security and belonging. We provide pupils with a stimulating curriculum, with a very strong emphasis on literacy support, we help them identify their learning needs and involve them in decisions about their education. We promote pupils' full participation in our community.

Pupils are given a literacy screening upon admission and their ability is regularly assessed to chart progress. Pupils in Key Stage 4 access GCSE examinations in a number of subjects and vocational courses which widen the range of choice available to them when they become young adults.

We offer a great variety of activity options - a very strong feature of our provision. By showing a determination to make better choices about their behaviour, pupils can attain an increasing level of participation in pursuits as diverse as motor cycling, kayaking, mountain biking, judo, fishing, sailing, snowboarding, metal-detecting, golf, orienteering, music, swimming, sub-aqua, football, basketball, badminton and many others.

We regularly celebrate pupils' academic, sporting and social achievements and we encourage boys to aspire to greater success. In addition to our stimulating and diverse range of activities, we make high quality opportunities available for boys to take part in field trips and expeditions here and abroad.

All our combined efforts to help boys enjoy successful placements culminate in their annual reviews. We encourage parents and placing officers when possible to attend these important events so we can reflect on the year's progress and discuss the future.
